Message from the Board
Hi AWSN members,
It is not an understatement to say we are in uncharted territory in our daily lives now. We work differently, we learn differently, we even exercise and shop differently. But it is heartwarming to see how incredibly we have adapted to these challenges by understanding what is important and working together to find solutions. At AWSN we have been doing this as well and I wanted to share with you an update from your Board.
As many of you know AWSN is and always will be about our members, everything we do is to support, connect and inspire women and men in security. We do this through events and meet ups, which till now have always been state based, in person, at a venue etc. But things have changed and as some of you may have already seen we are moving our events online for the foreseeable future. Chris (one of our chapter leads in Canberra), Susanna Lau (our Technical Strategy lead) and Liz (our AWSN Cadets National Program Manager) have been busy working through the logistics of going digital. They have done a fantastic job and I know many of you enjoyed our first online event yesterday. We will be running these monthly so keep an eye out on linked in for details of the next one in May.
AWSN is pleased to announce two new sponsors for 2020. We are very fortunate to be partnering with these wonderful organisations who together will help us support, connect and inspire our members and build a sustainable future for AWSN.
CyberCX – Platinum sponsor. We will also be working with CyberCX on building out the Membership value proposition for our entry level women in security. This includes those members returning to work and members of the AWSN Cadets program nationally. We are expanding AWSN cadets following the popularity of the program in Melbourne in past years. AWSN Cadets is focused on rapidly upskilling our new to the workforce and university students. If you would like to volunteer to help us with AWSN Cadets, please contact us.
Expressions of interests in AWSN Cadets for the next program will be opening soon, so watch this space.
ASD – Gold Sponsor. We will also be working with ASD to deliver a mentorship program aimed at our members who have been in the workforce for a number of years and are looking to progress and or develop new leadership skills. Expressions of interest to participate in the mentoring program will open shortly.
We are also working with ISACA and SheLeadsTech to support and provide opportunities for our members who are more senior as part of our Women in Leadership focus.
These sponsorships and programs are part of our member value proposition for 2020, which we will continue to build out in 2021 to segment and tailor support for the different stages of each members career and development.
Volunteers are the lifeblood of AWSN and we hope that never changes. Everything we have achieved so far has been through the hard work and dedication of our volunteers. But we also recognise that we need to move to having a dedicated Executive Manager who will work with us and build on the strong foundations we have developed but also take AWSN into the next stage of its purpose.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about growing our organisation and partnering with other organisations to deliver on our purpose. The role will be part time (we anticipate 2 days per week). We are keen to hear from anyone in our network of members who is interested in this position or knows someone who is interested. Please contact Board@awsn.org.au.
AGM (Annual General Meeting)
As a registered not for profit organisation we are holding our Annual General Meeting on Friday May 29th at 11:30am (AEST). Our AGM is open to all registered members of AWSN, so we look forward to you joining us to acknowledge and celebrate the successes of our past year. We are hoping to have some special guest speakers joining us on the day as well. Our meeting will be held by Zoom, so look out for further details and the invite coming your way soon.
We hope you have enjoyed this board update. We have lots more to share with you in our next update including how we have joined forces with a wonderful group focused on physical security and how this will help support, connect and inspire our members, as well as steps we are taking to formalise our membership joining processes over the coming months.
In these unusual times, we hope you and your families stay safe and well.
