Marie Patane is an award-winning security and resilience leader with over 25 years of experience in
high-risk sectors such as critical infrastructure, transport, and hospitality.
As the current NSW Chief Cyber Security Officer and Executive Director of Cyber Security NSW, Marie
spearheads the state’s efforts to strengthen cyber resilience, safeguard critical systems, and drive
innovation in security practices, while fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.
Previously, as Executive Director of Enterprise Security at Sydney Metro, she built NSW
Government’s first enterprise-wide converged security function, integrating cyber and
physical/protective security across Australia's largest public transport infrastructure project.
Known for her ability to build and lead strong, high-performing teams, Marie has consistently
delivered exceptional outcomes, including enhancing security culture and implementing
transformational security frameworks.
Her leadership and expertise have been recognised with numerous accolades, including both the
Excellence Award and Australia's Female Cyber Security Leader of the Year for 2026. Marie’s
visionary approach and commitment to developing people, systems, and strategies position her as a
trusted authority in advancing security and resilience across sectors.
